Perspectives and problems for the development of bio products in Haskovo Region
What are the perspectives and problems for the development of organic products in Haskovo Region is a question that EU2BIO project investigates in order to establish the current situation in the region and identify possible support measures to strengthen the development of organic agriculture in the region. In this regard, a „Research on perspectives and problems for the development of bio products in Haskovo Region“ was carried out under EU2BIO project, and the following groups were studied: population representatives as a consumer and agricultural producers in the territory of the region.
The results obtained from both researched groups are related to the development and sustainability of organic production from the point of view of regional needs and regional supply in Haskovo Region. The research offers an analysis of the responses of consumers related to the use of organic products and an analysis of the responses of farmers related to applied practices in agricultural holdings and the identification of problems, perspectives and trends for both groups that are relevant to the development of organic products in the region.
Some of the more interesting conclusions regarding the perspecives for the development of organic products in Haskovo Region are:
– There are good opportunities for development of organic products on the territory of Haskovo region, which include favorable soil and climatic conditions, accumulated experience and good practices on the behalf of the certified organic operators on the territory of the region (273 organic operators by 2022 with a total of 457 certified sub-activities, 4,295.36 ha of certified area as organic and in transition, produced 4,436.58 tons of organic product).
– the agricultural producer on the territory of Haskovo Region is in the age group 45 – 54 years; educated and experienced; having a variety of customers, among whom, however, the exporters are missing;
– the consumer of organic products in the territory of Haskovo Region is in the age group 25 – 54 years old, mostly employed in the private sector, with income mostly up to BGN 3,600 per month.
– organic food products have an exceptional preponderance of consumption compared to cosmetic and other organic products on the territory of Haskovo Region.
